Netlify and Vercel are both serverless-first platforms with no persistent compute, no Docker support, and no private networking. Neither provides the infrastructure primitives most agent architectures need. The comparison is between two platforms with similar constraints, where Vercel wins on function duration, AI tooling, and concurrency model.

Where Vercel wins

  • 800-second function duration with Fluid Compute concurrency. Vercel Functions support 800 seconds (13 minutes) on Pro and Enterprise, with Fluid Compute allowing multiple concurrent invocations on a single instance. This concurrency model reduces cold starts for I/O-bound agent workloads—parallel LLM API calls, embedding lookups, tool-call fan-out. Netlify synchronous functions cap at 60 seconds. Within that constraint, Vercel is stronger. The 800-second streaming duration accommodates most LLM chain latencies. Fluid Compute's concurrency model efficiently handles I/O-bound agent operations. When to pick which

  • Pick Vercel when the agent is a stateless service calling external LLM APIs, needs streaming responses for multi-step reasoning chains, benefits from the AI SDK and model provider marketplace, and every operation fits within 800 seconds.
